The Piazzale Castel San Pietro is a medieval fortress set high on a hilltop above the city. The architecture is quite remarkable, being one of the largest historic buildings in Verona, but the views from the surrounding terrace are the main reason to make the calorie-burning climb. From the peaceful plateau there’s a complete panorama over the rooftops of Verona, taking in the many spires and the glistening thread of the River Adige as it flows through the city’s heart. It’s one of the highest views to be found in the city and is also free of charge, so the effort is well worth it.
