This guided tour will offer you a full overview of the history of Venice and its most important buildings: the magnificent Doge’s Palace, seat of the government, court of justice, prison of the ancient Republic of Venice, historic residence of the Doges and the St. Mark’s Basilica, symbol of the Christianity and of the religious power of the city.
The visit begins in St. Mark's Square, where your guide will give you a taste of the history and traditions of the Venice of the past, illustrating the main monuments and revealing all the secrets jealously kept by the most beautiful square in the world. The visit will then continue inside the marvellous St. Mark's Basilica , also known as the Golden Church due to the majestic treasures stored inside and the golden mosaics that decorate its walls. The Basilica preserves the remains of Saint Mark, stolen, according to the legend, in Alexandria by two ingenious Venetian merchants.
Last but not least, you will visit the Doge's Palace, a magnificent masterpiece of gothic art, where the secrets of the Doge and his Council are conserved: a building that represented the pulse of La Serenissima's political power. You will find important artworks by authors such as Tintoretto, Tiziano, Veronese and many others.
