Tuscany's iconic landscape of lush green hills dotted with expansive vineyards offers the perfect opportunity to sample its best-known wines. Perhaps the most famous export is the red Chianti Classico. Produced in the region of the same name, the area is generally considered to include the provinces of Florence, Arezzo, Pisa, Siena and all in-between. For those visiting the region on the second weekend in September, the annual Chianti Classico wine tasting festival takes place in Greve. Here, you buy a glass with a ticket that will allow you to try various wines at the stalls set up around the piazza, as well as tasty foods of the region.
Other popular varieties to try when exploring Tuscany include the white Vernaccia di San Gimignano, and the red Nobile di Montepulciano.
