About the location
Everyone knows about Pisa’s Leaning Tower and magnificent baroque basilica, but look behind these brochure cover stars and you’ll find an array of modem museums, picturesque piazzas and exceptional restaurants vying for your attention. Of course, the city’s wonky bell tower is its main draw and is entirely deserving of its worldwide fame. Taking a novelty photo in front of the tower is great fun – book ahead if you want to climb to the top to avoid the queues. The entire area, known as the Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles), has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and packs plenty of appeal. Along with the tower, you can visit landmarks including the 11th-century marble-clad duomo and the remarkable baptistery, believed to be the largest in Italy.
Wander just a few streets away and you’ll discover a much more typical Pisan scene; locals milling about beneath rustic townhouses, and bustling cafes nestled in peaceful squares. Piazza de Cavalieri and Piazza Dante are two such examples of the authentic Pisa that many miss. Pisa’s botanical gardens are also worth a visit, and feature numerous rare plants set in surprisingly tranquil surroundings, especially considering their location is just a 10-minute stroll from the city’s famous Leaning Tower.

We stayed for one night in September 2024 and enjoyed our stay. We were making our way from Marseille along the coast by train to Pisa to catch a direct flight back to Amsterdam (not so easy to find except from big cities). We picked this hotel from an app and feel that we “lucked out “ as it was clean and comfortable with a pleasant staff. It’s maybe a 15-20 minute walk away from the Tower- take a right out the front door, right at the first corner and then straight ahead and 1/2 mile later, off to the left, there it is. A big plus for us was that it was directly across from the train station.

The staff at the hotel was nice, I was able to check in early after getting in on an early flight. For the most part, the room was clean but just very run down. When I first got in, I had to wash what appeared to be a silverfish down the bathtub drain. The wallpaper and ceiling is cracking and stained. There is no control over AC in the room, despite there being a thermostat. The bed was fine, not very comfortable. One of the two twins pushed together was a couple of inches lower than the other, and they were on wheels so a large gap kept opening up between them. Location was convenient in terms of traveling, right across from the train station. There’s no bar/lounge, just a self service fridge in the lobby. Probably wouldn’t stay here again in Pisa, definitely not 4-star quality

The limited interaction we had with staff was very positive.
The reception area and lounge are very well appointed.
The rooms are dated, the worst NH hotel room I have stayed in to date. They do need an update. But saying that the big bed was very comfortable and it had some of the best pillows I have ever come across in a hotel.
Overall did the dated decor spoil my stay, not really, I had a great nights sleep.
