About the location
Everyone knows about Pisa’s Leaning Tower and magnificent baroque basilica, but look behind these brochure cover stars and you’ll find an array of modem museums, picturesque piazzas and exceptional restaurants vying for your attention. Of course, the city’s wonky bell tower is its main draw and is entirely deserving of its worldwide fame. Taking a novelty photo in front of the tower is great fun – book ahead if you want to climb to the top to avoid the queues. The entire area, known as the Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles), has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and packs plenty of appeal. Along with the tower, you can visit landmarks including the 11th-century marble-clad duomo and the remarkable baptistery, believed to be the largest in Italy.
Wander just a few streets away and you’ll discover a much more typical Pisan scene; locals milling about beneath rustic townhouses, and bustling cafes nestled in peaceful squares. Piazza de Cavalieri and Piazza Dante are two such examples of the authentic Pisa that many miss. Pisa’s botanical gardens are also worth a visit, and feature numerous rare plants set in surprisingly tranquil surroundings, especially considering their location is just a 10-minute stroll from the city’s famous Leaning Tower.

The location of the hotel is very convenient in the square opposite the station. The staff were helpful at all times but I got the impression they were understaffed as only 1 receptionist with a queue of people was often seen. The rooms could do with a bit of upkeep. I was disappointed as the bath was the narrowest bath I have seen and it had a non sealing tap which did not hold the water. The hotel changed the tap on request. There was no mirror in the room - the only one was in the bathroom. The most irritating thing was that on New Year’s Day there was no hot water for all morning and the hotel said it was being repaired but it remained all morning so in cold temperatures I had to take a cold bath. At night the ac heat is switched off at times. If the hotel amenities were better it would have been a better experience .

The hotel is located in front of the train station and right at the center of the city. The only problem is that they don’t provide free drinking water as complimentary we have to pay 3 euros for one bottle of water. The staff is not always at the reception, they always stay at the back, you’ll have to call them for check in and check out.

We stayed for one night in September 2024 and enjoyed our stay. We were making our way from Marseille along the coast by train to Pisa to catch a direct flight back to Amsterdam (not so easy to find except from big cities). We picked this hotel from an app and feel that we “lucked out “ as it was clean and comfortable with a pleasant staff. It’s maybe a 15-20 minute walk away from the Tower- take a right out the front door, right at the first corner and then straight ahead and 1/2 mile later, off to the left, there it is. A big plus for us was that it was directly across from the train station.
