The Mercato Centrale or 'Central Market' was opened in spring 2014, in order to re-launch one of Florence's most important locations by Umberto Montano. Situated in the San Lorenzo neighbourhood and housed in an iron and glass building dating back to 1974, this vibrant market has breathed life back into Florence's old centre and opened up the opportunity for tourists and locals alike to enjoy a huge range of fresh Tuscan produce under one roof.
Located only a five-minute walk from Florence's Santa Maria Novella train station, the market seats up to 500 people and houses a huge choice of gastronomic delights offering the best of every speciality: bread and pizza, fresh fish, fried food, fruit and vegetables, meats and salamis, buffalo mozzarella, cheeses, chocolate and ice cream, fresh pasta, wines, lampredotto and sandwiches - all perfectly washed down with a chilled glass of prosecco or two. Capitalising on the abundance of delicious produce available in Tuscany, everything is freshly prepared onsite with all dishes created using only ingredients sold inside the market. The open cooking stations add to the atmosphere and create a great opportunity to gather some tips from the skilled chefs to take home with you - the only difficulty you'll have is deciding what to eat first!
Opening hours: 10am - 12am daily.
