Taormina is Sicily’s most popular destination, and with its beautiful views, warm seas and picturesque streets, it’s easy to see why many people flock to this coastal town. The cobbled streets are lined with shops, from fashion brands to family-run stores selling local crafts, as well as plenty of restaurants serving specialities from the island. It’s a great town for those who enjoy people watching with a coffee or glass of wine, and its cliffside location mean dramatic views over the sea and Mount Etna can be admired from many corners.
There’s plenty to keep you busy in Taormina. Early in the day, before the crowds get too large, head to the town’s amphitheatre. As well as being a fascinating Greek ruin, it’s also a particularly good spot for views. From there, take a leisurely stroll along Corso Umberto where you can browse the designer and boutique stores or head down the cable car to Taormina Mare where you can relax on the picturesque pebbled beaches or enjoy freshly-caught fish in one of the restaurants.
