About the location
The ‘Florence of the South’ is one of Puglia’s undeniable gems, offering more than 2,000 years of history and an array of architectural delights. Lecce gained its name under Roman rule and has occupied the same setting ever since, resulting in an outstanding mix of ancient sights throughout the city. Today, this energetic university town is an impressive blend of culture and commerce, with upmarket shopping right alongside baroque monuments. Right at the heart of Lecce is the centro storico, which features an enormous Roman amphitheatre, a towering cathedral and an angular fortress. The true star of the show, though, is the Church of Santa Croce, which is perhaps even more elaborately designed than its namesake in Florence. What makes this district even more impressive is the sheer number of creamy stone buildings – all built using the town’s very own Lecce stone.
If you prefer to spend time shopping, you can find artisan craft shops brushing shoulders with modern clothing outlets and designer jewellers. On the dining front, there are hundreds of restaurants and bars, with many serving authentic fare inspired by the surrounding landscape. You'll also find independent cookery schools and cosmopolitan cocktail bars, which lend the city a refreshingly modern streak in the face of its revered ancient history.

We booked into a 5 star hotel and, like another very recent reviewer, had a very disappointing experience. The rooms do not provide a 5 star experience, not even close- The main lobby and dining areas don’t prepare you for the condition of the rooms which are greatly in need of a refresh. The carpets, floors and surfaces were worn and in some cases dirty. It seems housekeeping has tried but there is only so much they can do! The chrome on the faucets was missing from the trying. As soon as we arrived, we started considering leaving to another hotel. The failure of the big stuff was not even offset by thoughtful small amenities- no coffee or tea supplies in the room, no paper, no pen, no comfortable place to sit. I did ask if there was another room available. The staff was kind enough to look and then showed me an equally tired room. It wasn’t worth moving.

Stayed for 6 nights in Presidential Suite . Lovely big bedroom / bed and fantastic lounge with huge TV. Terrace is fantastic to sit out on watching Lecce go by ! Super coffee machine . Ceilings are wonderfully high / so perfect. Bathroom decent with Jack and Jill sinks . Shower cubicle is quite small though . Hotel breakfasts are plentiful and very good quality with choice to eat outside if wanted. Reception staff very helpful and polite - hotel has a very relaxed calm feel. Location is fantastic for visiting by foot everything Lecce has to offer . Ate at rooftop restaurant 1 evening which was outstanding . Hotel organised our transfers to and from Brindisi airport which worked fine. Great base for us with our organised trips around Puglia.

We had a suite on the 4th floor. The good stuff:
1. Hotel is in a great location
2. The room was very large and it had a lovely big terrace
3. Room was well appointed and spotlessly clean
4. Lovely big comfy bed
5. The valet parking service is very efficient
6. Welcoming staff
7. Water, fruit and sparking wine in the room
The stuff that could be better:
1. Very small bathroom considering the size of the room with weirdly a huge 2 person jacuzzi bath in a separate room which I couldn’t work out how to use. Would be better to have a decent size bathroom with an ordinary bath in it
2. Breakfast not included and was overpriced at 25 euros per person to add it on
3. No tea or coffee making facilities
4. There were so many light switches and lots of them didn’t make sense. It took ages to work out which switch turned on each light.
Overall I recommend this hotel as a good place to stay.
