The well-established white façade of the Royal Hotel stands immersed amongst its own subtropical park of 16,000 square meters. With splendid views over the sea, it is set back only 200 metres from the promenade and the sandy beach, and approximately 500 metres from the centre of Sanremo, where its famous liberty-style casino and range of fashion boutiques can be found.
A wonderful seaside hotel that continues to embody tradition and luxury, the Royal Hotel was opened in 1872, by Lorenzo Bertolini, and still belongs to the same family of its creator. The Royal Hotel maintains a very high level of comfort in extremely fine surroundings, and is highly recommended for those seeking a truly relaxing and special holiday on the scenic Italian Riviera. Sanremo is one of Liguria’s most exciting cities, combining Italian Riviera glamour with a lively entertainment scene. From hundreds of dining options to live music events and dramatic cycling festivals, Sanremo has an all-round appeal that makes it a prime choice for a Ligurian holiday. Spread between a bustling seafront and a centro storico set into the hillside, the city boasts an impressive number of attractions, including the famous Pista Ciclabile. This coastal cycle and hiking route is entirely free from traffic and follows the pathway of an abandoned railway as it winds more than 12 miles along the coast to Imperia. There are some great historical sights here too, including a remarkable 20th-century Russian Orthodox church and an atmospheric old town ripe for exploring. If you fancy a bit of relaxation, the city also features a beautiful sandy beachfront.
Sanremo offers up plenty in the way of dining options. The best establishments are generally situated along the roads leading from the seafront, and range from high-end restaurants with enormous and sophisticated menus, to traditional osterie serving just a few daily specials alongside local drinks. We highly recommend trying the local speciality known as sardenara – a focaccia-like pizza dish often flavoured with onion and sardines.
When it comes to exploring the area, Sanremo provides a great position from which to explore the coastline, with Imperia being an easy drive away and the French resort of Cannes situated one hour by car from the city centre.
