Emilia Romagna, Varignana
Nestled in the picturesque hills of the Emilia-Romagna region, Palazzo di Varignana is a countryside retreat overlooking the town from which it takes its name. The village of Varignana is just a 20 minute walk away and offers a peek into medieval history with its churches, crypt, and ruins set against the backdrop of the iconic Italian countryside. Located just 30 minutes by car outside of Bologna, the estate boasts a rich history, with the Palazzo Bentivoglio at its heart. Dating back to 1705, it was built by Francesco Angiolini, one of the most famous architects of the 18th-century in Bologna and has been respectfully restored to blend with the resort and surroundings seamlessly. The extensive grounds are dotted with works of art, from intricate sculptures to the famous Claterna mosaic, and offer guests a peaceful sanctuary immersed in olive groves and vineyards. Traditional Italian charm mingles with modern luxury to create the perfect environment for a relaxing stay.
The hotel offers an array of facilities, including a spa, seven swimming pools and a whole range of activities to keep guests entertained. The location of the resort lends itself to outdoor exploration, with various walking and biking trails straight from the hotel. Dining at Palazzo di Varignana is a true culinary journey, with several on-site restaurants and bars to choose from. From the elegant Treno Reale, set in a 1920s train carriage, to the locally-inspired Il Grifone, each restaurant offers a one-of-a-kind experience whilst utilising the produce grown on their own farm.
Created inside a 1920s dining carriage, the Treno Reale offers a truly luxurious setting for dinner. With gold leaf touches and beautiful artwork, you will be transported back in time. The set menu is inspired by the stops along the original route of the Royal Train.
