Day 2-4 : Sorrento

View of the street in Sorrento, Italy. Sorrento beautiful way to the sea between the rock

We recommend exploring the town on your first day. Start by soaking up the atmosphere of the vibrant Piazza Tasso, with its lively pavement cafes and bars, before losing yourself in the maze of alleys of the old town. A Sorrento 'must see' is the Basilica di St. Antonio, housing the crypt of Sorrento's patron saint. If you enjoy walking, then head over to the Villa Communale public gardens which boast the best views in Sorrento extending across the bay of Naples as far as the magnificent Mount Vesuvius, and stop off at the beautiful cathedral en-route.

There are lots of options for those looking to get out and about, too. You can take a journey across the famous Amalfi drive; starting in the hills behind Piano di Sorrento, and passing through Amalfi, Ravello and Positano to Vietri Sul Mare. It’s a spectacular section of the Italian coast, and makes for an unforgettable day out. Further inland are the ancient buried cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, and both open for exploration.
