Grand Hotel Aminta Sorrento

We booked the Grand Aminta through Easy jet holidays for a five night bed & breakfast stay, after being let down again ! ! by TUI, with our original Sorrento hotel bookings for our daughters wedding. I read the Tripadvisor reviews beforehand, the majority of which were honest and accurate. We were travelling as a couple with our 8 year old granddaughter, and came across an 3 bed family room at the Aminta, with only a few rooms left. The room was very clean and adequate although small for 3 people, one double and a sofa bed, nice en-suite half bath/shower, tv, desk, well stocked mini-bar fridge ( usual high prices but, great if you arrive after hours and need refreshing ) we found room for a couple of our own as well. Good aircon came as standard but, no tea/coffee making facilities ( we take a travel kettle with us everywhere, so not an issue for us ) Our room was low level next to the laundry room, so as a light sleeper i had an early rumble alarm lol, for an hour or two that being said, we did book late with many other room choices available normally and, the bed linen was immaculate along with the friendly hotel staff at all levels. The hotel is located in the hills to the South East of Sorrento town, with fabulous views across the bay of Naples from the excellent pool and balcony areas, which gives a morning coffee to remember ! It is a 15 min taxi ride up or down to Sorrento main tourist square which averaged 40 euros ( non negotiable usually ) OR you can take the regular free shuttle bus with stop directly opposite, which passes en route from other hilltop hotels. The shuttle runs to and from town throughout the day, with a " Siesta gap "of a couple of hours and we found it an essential part of our stay at the Aminta, as we had no hire car and, usually planned our day around the timetable when not on wedding duties or splashing out on a taxi. Note !! we also got to sing some of our favourite oldies on the shuttle bus depending which driver we had, Great fun, don"t forget to tip and hold on !! lol. Breakfast was served in the main restaurant with fabulous decor, and doors leading out onto the main balcony. There was a great continental and, "italian" full English selection with tea & coffee served on request from the excellent friendly staff / maitre de. We had no evening meals at the hotel so cannot comment. Overall, I would highly recommend the Grand Hotel Aminta for couples / adults, just keep in mind the location in relation to Sorrento main tourist areas. Lovely hotel, with immaculate friendly staff, efficient reception, great pool area ( with pool guy ) and fabulous views.

Overall the hotel Aminta is fantastic with positives far outweighing any negatives. We are a family of 2 adults and an 8 year old boy and we all really enjoyed it. Positives - Food is absolutely amazing - the breakfast buffet was well stocked and tasty, day time snack food good and evening meals (half board) were unbelievable really for the cost - to have a 3 or 4 course sit down, delicious meal every night was a real treat. - shuttle bus - very useful and you’d struggle without it. - views across the bay are so beautiful - sitting on a comfy seat, enjoying the view and a cocktail was another highlight. - staff are amazing - far too many to name but the pool guys was so attentive, Lauren on reception really friendly and really built a personal relationship - remembering our sons name for example. The wait staff in the restaurant were the highlight of our trip - they seemed to really warm to our son and had some lovely conversations especially about his collection of football kits and offered tweaks to the menu to make things more child friendly. My son especially liked Alessandro who really went out of his way with him to give him attention and have fun. They were all brilliant. When we left our son was genuinely in tears as he’d miss them. Negatives/neutral - Room was ok - clean and most things there but there was just nowhere near enough space to put stuff - we ended up with suitcases all over the floor and our soon tripped over a couple of times. - not enough for kids really - there was the pool but nothing else - could have had things like pool table, air hockey, table tennis etc… there weren’t many kids there and it just put us on edge a bit as it felt like we were continually telling our child to quieten down and not splash in the pool etc… Definitely better for couples. - Food and drinks very expensive and cos you’re out of the way no real choice but to buy them at times - but at the same time high quality, great menu and cocktails mixed well. Overall Sorrento is amazing, this hotel was great and we’d definitely come back but probably when our son is quite a bit older.
