Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Sorrento

Arrive in the picturesque town of Sorrento and check into your hotel – the 4* Grand Hotel Vesuvio. This hotel is in a peaceful area with lovely views towards Mount Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples, and offers a tranquil retreat after a day of sightseeing. Grand Hotel Vesuvio has a lovely swimming pool and gardens and is just 10 minutes from the centre of Sorrento by the hotel’s complimentary shuttle service.

Enjoy an evening welcome drink with your tour guide. Dinner is included at Grand Hotel Vesuvio on arrival day.

Day 2 : Sorrento

Spend the day exploring Sorrento, your day will start with a small group private tour with a guide. Marvel at its elegant architecture in the shade of tropical citrus trees, and discovering its fascinating history. Founded by the Greeks in the 6th Century BC, it has been ruled by several empires, including the Samnites, the Romans and Byzantines, and includes a fascinating mix of cultural heritage.

Explore the town’s winding streets and meander through its atmospheric piazzas. Along the way, enjoy the chance to sample some of the city’s most delicious produce, including pizza, gelato and Sorrento’s famous limoncello, a liquor made from its zesty lemons.

Day 3 : Sorrento - Amalfi Coast - Sorrento

After a traditional Italian breakfast at your hotel, not forgetting a delicious cup of caffè, you’ll head out towards the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Amalfi Coast. Travel along what is often touted as one of the world’s most beautiful drives, where the road hugs the rugged coastline and quaint villages tumble down the mountainside towards the azure blue of the sea.

First, you will drive by and admire Positano, one of the more famous towns on the Amalfi Coast with its collage of ice cream coloured houses. Next, make a stop in Amalfi and be greeted by the sight of its grand Arab and medieval Roman cathedral. The last stop on the tour is the attractive town of Ravello, well known for its lush gardens, which cascade down the cliffside like green waterfalls.

Day 4 : Sorrento, Free day

Today you’ll have a free day to really get to know Sorrento and explore further or simply relax. Head out to visit one of the city’s top sights, such as the beautiful Villa Comunale, one of the most historic parks in southern Italy.

Art lovers may want to visit the Museum Correale, filled with artwork and historic artefacts from past centuries. Don’t miss a visit to the Piazza Tasso, where you’ll find a magnificent 15th Century cathedral and the rabbit warren of charming streets which branch off it.

Day 5 : Pompeii & Vesuvius - Sorrento

Spend the day travelling back in time in the city of Pompeii on an expert led tour. One of Europe’s most celebrated archaeological sites, Pompeii was buried under a layer of magma from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. In its heyday, Pompeii was one of the most important settlements in the Roman civilization, giving you a fascinating sense of times long gone by. Next you will visit the magnificent peak of Mount Vesuvius, standing at 1,281m high. Make sure you take comfortable shoes and a lightweight jacket (it's quite cold at the top!)

Day 6 : Capri and Anacapri

Today you will take the ferry over to visit the nearby picturesque island of Capri. Travel to Capri town centre and begin your walking tour, which will take you through the main sights. Visit colourful Augustus Gardens and take in the spectacular views of the bay, as well as Piazza Umberto, or The Little Square. This is the ideal place to relax with a coffee as you watch the world go by.

Take an optional boat ride into the magical Blue Grotto. There is also a chairlift up to the island’s highest peak.

Day 7 : Free day

The last day of the trip is free for you to spend exactly as you please. This is your chance to relax or explore further with one of our day trips

Day 8 : Sorrento - UK

Leave the charming city of Sorrento and get ready to say goodbye to Italy as you prepare for your flight home.

Flight Information

The closest airport to Sorrento is Naples (NAP), which is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes from Sorrento. Direct flights to Naples airport (NAP) are available from Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London Gatwick, London Luton, London Stansted, Manchester and Newcastle and take approximately 2 hours 45 minutes.

Visa Information

At the current time, British citizens do not require a visa to visit Italy.

Tipping

Whilst tipping isn’t embedded into Italian culture it is always appreciated as an acknowledgement of good service. Nowadays people generally round up a bill in a bar or cafe and leave 5-10% extra on a restaurant bill. Taxi bills are usually also rounded up. 
 
On guided tours/excursions, it is customary to leave a token of appreciation for the driver and guide.
 
On small group escorted tours, it is customary to leave a token of appreciation for the driver and guide at the end of the tour.
